From open to closed? Moving from DOA towards a different business model

A couple of news items / articles have caught my eye this morning:

Editors of Courant math journal to leave Wiley, establish new roots with independent publisher. Editors of a journal run by a prestigious math institute will close up shop and form a new (closed) journal with an independent publisher, with one editor citing Wiley’s increased oversight as the reason behind the move.

Diamond Fractures: Tracing Journal Transitions Away from Diamond Open Access. While much attention has been paid to journals transitioning toward Diamond OA, comparatively little is known about those moving in the opposite direction. This article introduces the concept of “diamond fractures”–instances in which journals that once published freely for both readers and authors subsequently abandoned that model, transitioning to subscription-based or article processing charge (APC)-funded publishing. So different from the first article, i.e. not moving away from OA but instead shifting how they finance OA.
