The AEUP is introducing a new event format: the AEUP Roundtable. The goal is to establish a regular, collaborative space for network members and publishing experts to discuss practical issues in academic publishing.
Rather than traditional webinars, these sessions are structured around open exchange. Each meeting will begin with a brief introduction to a current industry topic, followed by an open discussion. It is designed as a practical forum where members can address complex professional challenges, share their own experiences, and learn from one another.
Please note that these sessions will not be recorded to ensure an informal and open environment for discussion.
First Session: Open Access Standards and Monographs
The first roundtable will focus on the practical application of Open Access (OA) standards for monographs, a topic of increasing importance given the evolving mandates from the European Commission (Horizon Europe, ERC) and national funding bodies.
We will be joined by Laura Bandura-Morgan (OAPEN/DOAB), who will outline the core components of a compliant OA publishing framework, focusing on:
- Guidelines for transparent peer review
- Implementing clear Creative Commons licensing
- Long-term digital preservation
- Managing rich metadata infrastructure (including DOIs, ORCIDs, RORs, and ISBNs) to ensure institutional compliance and discoverability
Laura will share insights based on her work evaluating publisher applications at DOAB and OAPEN. The second half of the hour will be dedicated entirely to member questions and group discussion.
