Any game ideas to make Diamond OA training more fun?

Hi all,

I’m looking for a bit of help from those of you who like games or playful ideas :alien_monster: We’re preparing some training sessions on Diamond Open Access and EDCH resources, and I’d like to add a fun twist to them, e.g., a Diamond OA card game to help newcomers get familiar with our world, or any other playful format (it can be online, etc.).

I was wondering if any of you have already tried something like this, know of similar existing resources, or would be up for brainstorming together?

Great idea, thank you Marion! Milica and I worked on this EOSC Ice Breakers set of cards a coupe of years ago https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10044731 and I am up for brainstorming together! I’ve quickly checked the FORRT Open Research Games Portal FORRT Open Research Games Portal and I don’t think such resource exists already.

Hi Iryna! Thanks a lot for sharing these two resources, they’re really interesting! I didn’t know either of them, so I’ll definitely take a closer look :eyes: At first glance, the FORRT Open Research Games Portal seems to focus on open science and open data, I don’t see anything specifically related to Diamond OA (at least for now). I’ll explore it a bit more and then come back to you (and to anyone else who’d like to join!) so we can think together about the format!

Hi Marion, that’s a lovely idea!

And agreeing with Iryna, there might not be too many specifically tailored to Diamond OA … but maybe some of those addressing open access in more general terms could be adapted to no-fee, Diamond OA?

The Open Access Tracking Project has a good list of resources collected over the years, tagged with oa.games - see TagTeam :: Search - Open Access Tracking Project (OATP) for a list.

Hi Toby, many thanks for your reply! I’ll definitely check out those resources, it looks like a great starting point. I’s certainly worth exploring how we can create a game specifically tailored to Diamond OA!
