Dear EDCH community,
Steven Verheyen and I have recently started the Diamond Reviewer Pledge and think it might be interesting for you: Diamond Reviewer Pledge
The idea is simple: Signatories commit to reviewing at least one article per year for a diamond open access journal. It’s a minimum commitment to make sure some of our (unpaid) reviewing time flows back into the journals that support open research.
We will be advertising this initiative more broadly during Peer Review Week (Sept 14–18) which this year is themed around capacity: how the research community can deal with rising submissions and a reviewer pool under pressure. The pledge is one small, concrete way for researchers to be intentional about where they send their reviewing capacity.
We would very much appreciat if you’d be willing to share this with your networks (e.g., a newsletter mention, a social post, or just forwarding to a few colleagues who might want to sign).
Below is a short template message you’re welcome to adapt or use as-is:
Peer review is a finite resource, and every review invitation presents a choice about where our time goes. The Diamond Reviewer Pledge asks researchers to commit to reviewing at least one article a year for a diamond open access journal — free to publish, free to read, and run by the scholarly community. It takes a minute to sign and helps sustain the journals that keep research open to everyone. Learn more and join: Diamond Reviewer Pledge
I’m happy to answer any questions you might have, or send additional materials (badge graphics, longer explainer, etc.) if that would be helpful.
Thank you for considering this,
Lukas
