# Low-cost and no-cost, community-developed services: A showcase and discussion from the institutional publishing perspective

The panel discussion is one among different events organised by KIT Library during the [International Open Access Week](https://www.openaccessweek.org/) **(19–25 October 2026).**

Considering that this year’s theme is **“The Cost of Knowledge,”** the planned event will give this topic a positive spin by discussing the importance of various community-developed and community-governed services available to institutional publishers, and specifically to university publishers, at little or no cost.

The programme is inspired by various free knowledge- and practice-sharing services and tools and will start with a showcase of a few such services available to the publishers. Representatives of community-led initiatives, such as SeDOA, OPERAS, and AG Universitätsverlage have also been invited to join the discussion.

Intended as a platform for knowledge sharing and discussion, the 90-minute event will feature short introductions to selected services, followed by an open discussion where participants can ask questions, share experiences, and bring forth criticisms.
