# INSPIRING ERA Exchange: Overcoming Barriers in Open Access Publishing Towards a More Inclusive and Sustainable ERA

The [INSPIRING ERA project](https://www.inspiring-era.eu) is organising a full-day in-person [workshop dedicated to strengthening Open Access (OA) publishing as a foundation for a more inclusive and sustainable European Research Area (ERA)](https://www.inspiring-era.eu/event/overcoming-barriers-in-open-access-publishing-towards-a-more-inclusive-and-sustainable-era/). The event will bring together a diverse group of participants from across Europe, including policymakers, funders, research organisations, infrastructure providers, scholarly publishers, and SSH researchers.

The workshop will provide a space to critically examine the current OA landscape, discuss systemic challenges, and collaboratively explore practical solutions. Participants will engage in presentations and interactive breakout sessions, addressing topics such as OA funding, infrastructure, discoverability, multilingualism, and policy implementation.

By facilitating dialogue and knowledge exchange, the workshop seeks to amplify the voices of underrepresented actors, identify best practices, and co-create actionable recommendations to support community-driven and sustainable OA models at both EU and national levels.

**Highlights include:**

- Overview of EU OA policy directions and current initiatives
- Interactive breakout discussions on barriers, solutions, and good practices
- Presentation of breakout results and reflections on follow-up actions
- Compilation of recommendations to inform OA policies and funding strategies

This workshop is an opportunity for all stakeholders to contribute to shaping a more equitable and resilient OA ecosystem across Europe.
